Okay, this is another little Genesis 12 string thing.
There's a song called Fly on a Windshield
and I've seen on many Genesis forums and things people want to learn the chords for this.
So I watched the Musical Box [Em] play it and I watched Hackett play it via YouTube
and I believe these are the chords.
Okay, so this is normal tuning.
There's no funky tuning going on here.
Yeah?
[Bbm] And this is a Godin [G] A12 [A] natural.
I'm going to add a bit of reverb.
[Em] But the chords [E] are
Take your middle finger [Bm] on [B] the F sharp note.
Put your pinky on the G string on the 4th fret.
So you're playing a B.
Your first finger goes on the E.
The low [E] E there.
[B] That's the [Em] notes that you're ringing.
[Bm] This finger is muting the A.
So you're playing a low [E] E.
[B]
Now you take that shape [Em] and you slip it up to the 5th fret.
Okay?
[G]
And then you slide up [Am] to the 7th.
[G] [Em]
[B] All the while playing that [E] E.
I'll give you an idea and a [Em] flavour of where it's at.
[B] [Em]
[C] It certainly utilises all the harmonics of a 12 string.
It then goes to a C.
No [Em] one seems to care.
So that [C] is a C.
Straight C.
You're playing an [Em] E minor here.
But you play a G here.
But play that
[C]
[Em]
The A string and the E string are silent.
Then the same again for an A minor.
[Am]
[E]
[C] No [Em] one seems to care.
[Am] They carry on as if nothing [E] were.
[Bm] Now this is the tricky part.
It's weird.
First [Ebm] finger on the F sharp [G] note.
And your third finger on that E flat.
And then you play the 4 strings.
[Eb]
[G] [A]
[Eb] [Em]
[G]
[Ebm] [G]
[Ebm] [G] And slide that all up [Em] to there.
[G] Or you can play it as a G.
[Eb]
[Em] [G]
[C] Just [G] reverse those fingers.
[A] And go back down to there.
[Db] The G and the C sharp.
[Eb]
[Em] [G]
[A] [Eb] [Em]
[G]
And then
It doesn't play this on the guitar but it's a nice chord.
On the 12th fret
Sorry.
3rd finger 14th fret D string.
4th finger, pinky, on the G string 14th fret.
And then your 1st finger is [E] barring there.
And you just rake your fingers across those 4 strings.
[A] [G]
[Em]
And I'm hovering like a fly.
Etc.
Ok.
[Bm]
[Em] [N]
That's Flying a Windshield.
Hope that helps you.
